I am fascinated by the animal-human, the secrets realized by ancient peoples recorded in unknown symbols – those that scream the truths we no longer hear. I journey back to where symbols, rituals, dance, and ceremonies rule the day and night. The part of me that remembers guides my work. The results are modern artifacts – such as fetish masks – made from yesterdays cast-offs, celebrating the creativity of the human spirit. Fetishes have been a sacred and important part of civilizations for thousands of years. Fetishes can be used in the garden or near a doorway, window, or gate to trick lost and wandering spirits into believing the house or garden is already occupied by other spirits. They get the message to keep on wandering! I have been making up-cycled art for 20 years from found objects. All are one of a kind, and up-cycled from discarded remnants of our current world.
